Robin Hood congratulates Neighborhood Trust on the opening of its new headquarters in Washington Heights.  Staff, board, clients, supporters and elected officials came together yesterday for an official ribbon cutting ceremony.  This milestone marks the end of an arduous, four-year relocation process.  In 2008, Neighborhood Trust learned it would be forced to vacate its space in the George Washington Bus Terminal.  Working with a team of top-notch professionals, Neighborhood Trust endured an exhaustive space search and lease negotiation.  Robin Hood partnered with Neighborhood Trust from the outset to help find a solution to the agency’s space needs.  When a new space was identified, Robin Hood awarded an $800,000 capital grant for the agency to renovate and furnish the new space.  We admire Neighborhood Trust’s dedication to its clients and celebrate the agency’s successful relocation on-time and on-budget.

Neighborhood Trust is a nonprofit financial coop, providing similar services as a bank, but with a mission to strengthen the community it serves. They are committed to helping poor New Yorkers access affordable savings accounts, loans and other financial services.  Robin Hood specifically funds three initiatives.  First, a program that runs financial-literacy workshops and individual counseling sessions at 15 community-based organizations across the city, serving 1,685 individuals. Second, through their partnership with New York Presbyterian Hospital and the 1199 Union, Robin Hood funding supports one-on-one financial counseling to 400 hospital and union employees.  And third, we fund neighborhood trust to conduct one-on-one financial counseling at 19 Single Stop sites across the city, primarily in upper Manhattan and the Bronx.
