First of all, wow! We started this Tumblr at the beginning of the summer with the hopes that we could engage New Yorkers and inspire a movement to help our neighbors in need.  Getting to 3000 followers so quickly has exceeded our expectations! By reblogging our photos, our videos and our sound clips, you have all joined the fight against poverty. Thank you for being Robin Hood.

All of us at SoundCloud are honored that Robin Hood chose our platform to run the audio portion of their site. Ten years on, people have done an incredible job of rebuilding and strengthening their communities. Now is the time when technology can play a vital role in how we reflect, remember, and never forget the retrospective and forthcoming stories of that day.

Thanks to SoundCloud’s platform, we invite you to listen to letters addressed to Robin Hood 10 years ago, but meant for all of Robin Hood’s supporters. It’s an honor to share them with you now.

As we face the future, we need to take courage.

Every family that lost someone on 9/11 received a $5,000 check from Robin Hood.  In return, we received heartwarming letters of thanks. Through these letters, we learned about the people we helped and the loved ones they had lost.  Mary-Louise Parker reads a letter from a woman honoring the life of her husband.

We received many heartfelt letters sent by the wives, husbands and mothers of 9/11 victims. Here, Harvey Weinstein reads a letter from an employer who provided information on a victim’s wife so that she could receive a check from Robin Hood.

As the world prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Robin Hood Foundation, the largest poverty fighting organization in New York City, has chosen SoundCloud to power the audio portion of their website commemorating the 9/11 tragedy.

Thirty-six hours after the attacks, Robin Hood established the 9/11 Relief Fund, and provided each victim’s family with a no-strings, no-application gift of $5,000 before the holidays.  Following the check distribution, Robin Hood received hundreds of moving thank you notes.  Celebrities including Mary-Louise Parker, Tom Welling, Arianna Huffington, and current and former Robin Hood board members including Harvey Weinstein, can be heard on the Robin Hood site reading from these incredibly touching letters. The Robin Hood 9/11 Relief Fund would go on to distribute more than $65 million dedicated to helping victims of the September 11 attacks.

You can listen to the readings of these letters on the Robin Hood, 9/11 relief website as well as their SoundCloud page.

Thanks to the amazing team at SoundCloud for all their support on this project.

Every single family who lost someone on 9/11 received a check for $5,000 just in time for the holidays.  In most cases, those checks were the first funds the family every received.  Within days, their poignant thank you letters started arriving at Robin Hood.
