As the world prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Robin Hood Foundation, the largest poverty fighting organization in New York City, has chosen SoundCloud to power the audio portion of their website commemorating the 9/11 tragedy.
Thirty-six hours after the attacks, Robin Hood established the 9/11 Relief Fund, and provided each victim’s family with a no-strings, no-application gift of $5,000 before the holidays. Following the check distribution, Robin Hood received hundreds of moving thank you notes. Celebrities including Mary-Louise Parker, Tom Welling, Arianna Huffington, and current and former Robin Hood board members including Harvey Weinstein, can be heard on the Robin Hood site reading from these incredibly touching letters. The Robin Hood 9/11 Relief Fund would go on to distribute more than $65 million dedicated to helping victims of the September 11 attacks.

This Sunday, we will commemorate 10 years since the tragedy of September 11. Those 77 minutes changed our city and our world. In 2001 we knew we had to find a way to help not only our neighbors, but all the victims of 9/11. Five weeks after 9/11, we organized the Concert for New York City which raised over $35 million. A $5,000 check was sent to every family of each casualty of 9/11, no questions asked, in time for the holidays. Now, 10 years later, there is still more to do. Thousands of adults and children have continuing mental health needs. Help us help them.
