Originally founded as an over-40 recreational basketball league, Graybeards played a key role in community revitalization after the losses suffered by the Belle Harbor, Queens community following 9/11. Once again, the Belle Harbor area is reeling following the devastation of Sandy, with many homes destroyed by flooding and fires. With a $25,000 grant from Robin Hood, Graybeards can provide vital support services to help people in the community rebuild their lives, including finding apartments for physically handicapped individuals who were displaced by the storm.
Admirable.
