Yesterday, Robin Hood staff took some time away from the office for a volunteer event with one of our grantees, City Harvest.
When City Harvest receives shipments from local farmers, they come in massive bins containing one to two thousand pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables. In order to distribute these to local food banks and soup kitchens, the food must be put into smaller portions. That’s where volunteers play a crucial role at City Harvest. Nearly every day groups of volunteers come to their new facility, located in Long Island City, to lend a helping hand.
Yesterday, Robin Hood staff sorted and bagged 27,000 pounds of sweet potatoes. It was a fun way to see one of our grantees up close and personal. And it was a great way to “Be Robin Hood.”
